Events of the Heart (EOH) is making its inaugural visit to Los Angeles with the premiere of "You've Gotta Have Heart" on April 28 at the Geffen Playhouse, 10886 Le Conte Ave, for one night only. The evening will feature theatrical performances starring Eva Longoria, Dana Delany, Holland Taylor, Brenda Strong and Judy Gold, among others, to help raise awareness about heart disease in women.

"It sounds shocking, but very few women know that heart disease is their number one health risk; killing more women than all cancers combined," said EOH co-founders Carole Isenberg and Pamela Serure. "We are touring the country, using the arts to reach out to women and make them aware of this epidemic that is affecting 500,000 of them each year."

The scripted pieces performed at the event will explore what is at the heart of women and wellness, and will include stories adapted for the stage by noted writers, playwrights, novelists and journalists including Marsha Norman, Joan Juliet Buck, Maureen Orth, Carole Radziwill and Doug Wright. Serving as hosts for the event are co-founders Serure and Isenberg, as well as host committee members Tory Burch, Dana Delany and Mary Louise Parker, among others.

The Los Angeles event marks the second stop for EOH, following their inaugural premiere of "Heart On!" in New York City. That event was hosted by Joy Behar and honored renowned cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Mehmet Oz. Funds raised from the Los Angeles performance will be used to support EOH's continuing education and awareness campaigns, as well as to help provide heart screenings for women in underserved communities.

EOH was founded on a generous grant provided by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, a leader in the field of hypertension providing innovative treatment options to patients.

"We are thrilled to support the educational and research initiatives that Events of the Heart champions," said Christopher Kaplan President, Cardiovascular/ Metabolic Operating Unit, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. "We need to open the dialogue around this important subject and encourage women to know and control their blood pressure, as it is one of the risk factors for heart attack and stroke."

According to the National Institutes of Health, each year, heart disease causes approximately one out of every four deaths among women of all races/ethnicities, and one out of every two deaths among African American women and Latina women.
