The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has launched a new Web Site -- InsureUonline -- that provides consumers with information on health insurance organized by four life stages, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. Alessandro Iuppa, president of NAIC and superintendent of the Maine Bureau of Insurance, said, "The better consumers understand their health insurance options, as well as their share of the costs for premiums, copays and deductibles, the better they'll be able to plan for health-related expenses." According to NAIC, a recent survey finds that about one-third of young, single adults were aware of the difference between HMOs and PPOs and that 18% had declined employer-sponsored health insurance to reduce costs. In addition, the survey finds that half of individuals with established families were not aware of COBRA and that only 12% of seniors believed they required long-term care insurance (Edwards, Richmond Times-Dispatch, 6/30).
